The Iowa Water Center Initiatives
The Iowa Water Center serves in a leadership or capacity-building role for statewide and regional initiatives beyond our core research administration and coordination activities. These initiatives include signature Iowa Water Center activities as well as programs that directly impact water or water management in Iowa. Initiatives listed on this page support the Iowa Water Center’s mission to advance water science to meet Iowa’s resource needs by building team capacity for science and technology transfer in targeted areas, providing accessible venues for water information dissemination, and training the next generation of water scientists.
Water Scholars
Water Scholars is IWC’s flagship interdisciplinary learning community for water faculty, staff, and professionals.
Daily Erosion Project
The Daily Erosion Project (DEP) is a multidisciplinary project that models sheet and rill soil erosion and publishes results in a map interface.
Agricultural Conservation Planning Framework National Hub
The Agricultural Conservation Planning Framework (ACPF) is a tool that visualizes built conservation practices on the landscape.
Spirit of the Water Essay Contest
IWC’s Spirit of the Water Essay Contest is an annual competition for Iowa high school students, challenging them to write creative fiction or non-fiction narratives about Iowa’s water.
Soil and Water Conservation Club
IWC staff advise the Iowa State University Soil and Water Conservation Club for undergraduate and graduate students. SWCC produces an annual publication and sells groundwater flow models.
